$8 Million to Advance Local Justice System Reforms

January 30, 2019

Chicago, IL, January 30, 2019—  Four communities that are part of the Safety and Justice Challenge are receiving $8 million in new grants to continue building on efforts to advance local criminal justice system reform and safely reduce their jail populations. This additional funding will allow Milwaukee; New Orleans; Pima County, Arizona; and Spokane to continue to strengthen and expand strategies that address the main drivers of local jail incarceration. Three years after its public launch, MacArthur has invested more than $166 million into the Safety and Justice Challenge, a collaborative of 52 counties, cities, and states modeling and inspiring reforms to create fairer, more effective local justice systems across the country.
