Background & Approach
Broward County is on the southeastern coast of Florida including the greater Fort Lauderdale area and is the second-most populous county in the state. The county built a data dashboard with automated email notifications alerting criminal justice stakeholders when people have been in custody for 30 days without filed criminal charges. The project also involved creating an Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL) process to pull data for the reporting service and developing a process to stagger court data for in-custody defendants on a local server. Broward County continues to engage with the Safety and Justice Challenge Network to rethink and redesign its criminal justice system so that it is more fair, just, and equitable for all.
