Background & Approach
Norfolk County, located south of Boston, engaged the community to support pretrial systems reform. In partnership with the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office, Community Resources for Justice analyzed jail release data, administered surveys, and facilitated a focus group with people detained in the jail. In addition, the county convened a virtual Pretrial and COVID-19 Roundtable to discuss lessons learned from the large number of individuals that were released pretrial due to the COVID-19 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court order.
Norfolk County continues to engage with the Safety and Justice Challenge Network to rethink and redesign its criminal justice system so that it is more fair, just, and equitable for all.
